The walls, always there…

We love you, they say

At least maybe we do.

But don’t hope for us

To love much like you…

The walls, always there,

Develop nary a crack.

What hope have I ever

That they will ever love back.

I look for every little light shined

That could have been shone in love,

But if I look just a bit closely

Away they will shove

The walls, always there

Perhaps around a corner they peer

As if they’re afraid

That I may get too near

You can love us, they say…

But only carefully please

If I might love too intensely

They’ll dispense me with ease
